About the artist
Hi, I’m Alex, owner of Alex Goddard Art. I’m a pet portrait and animal artist specialising in acrylic paint. My mission is to create unique pieces of art that celebrate our love of animals. I paint from my cosy home studio in West Sussex, UK, where I juggle brushes and busy days with my young family. Oh, and when I'm not painting, you'll find me savouring strong coffee, indulging in dark chocolate, or enjoying a walk in our neighbouring forest with my family.
where it all began
When I found out I was expecting my first baby boy in 2017, I decided to pick up a paintbrush to pass the time. I’ve always loved painting, so I started with my brother's Boxer dog as a birthday gift. I shared it online, and to my surprise, it sparked interest from friends and family. Commissions started rolling in, and now, years later, I’m still at it, painting pet portraits with passion and joy. It’s been a colorful journey that I absolutely love!
my signature style
People often compliment my paintings, saying I capture the emotion of each animal. Clients frequently tell me how much my work resembles their beloved pets, sometimes sharing very emotional feedback. I take great pride in this with every portrait I create. Rather than focusing on photorealism, I strive to capture the personality of each animal. My goal is to develop a unique style that sets me apart from other pet portrait artists and provides my clients with lasting, cherished memories.
My approach
I aim to provide a personal service by discussing each pet's character and personality with my clients. Understanding the bond between the pet and its owner helps me create more meaningful portraits. Often, I'm painting memorial portraits, which can be a sensitive and emotional time, as losing a pet is like losing a family member. My goal is for my clients to enjoy the process and see it as a special and unique tribute to their beloved pet.
